Hospital Injuries

Many hospitals should come with a warning on them similar to those found on cigarette packs: hospital stays may be hazardous to your health. At the Scanlan Law Group, our 25 years of experience in medical malpractice cases have taught us that doctors, nurses, and all of the other staff and employees found at the typical hospital can cause a lot of harm.

Medical injuries in hospitals claim more than 32,500 lives in the United States each year, at least 2.4 million extra days of hospitalization, and up to $9.3 billion in added costs. Serious blood infection, or sepsis, following surgery is the most frequent hospital error, leading to an average of nearly 11 extra days in the hospital at a cost of more than $57,000 per patient. Almost 22 percent of patients who suffer post-surgery sepsis die of the infection. The second most serious medical injury involves the rupture of a wound after surgery. Patients with this complication spend an average of about nine additional days in the hospital, and incur up to $40,000 in extra costs, while nearly 10 percent die of the injury.

At the Scanlan Law Group, we have extensive experience in hospital injury cases, and we know what it takes to bring these cases to a successful conclusion.
